THE second Chagford Film Festival kicked off at the Globe Inn on Monday with a spectacular gala opening night.

The Globe Singers and Michael Campari provided music as throngs of people visited the pub for the first night of the six-day event.

Organiser Mary French said: 'The gala opening was really good, the pub was absolutely packed out, which is exactly what you want on the first night.

'Tickets sales have done well but there are still plenty of talks and screening tickets left, so we're urging people to come along and embrace the festival. There are some fantastic events going on throughout the week right up to the final night.'

Visitors to the pub on Monday also enjoyed a champagne reception and screening of the smash-hit 2011 film 'The Artist' — some festival-goers on Monday dressed in 1920s-style costume, the decade in which the film is set.

The week's programme continues through to Saturday with a James Bond themed finale, with Oscar-winning sound editor Norman Wanstall giving a question and answer session.
