I WISH to refer to the report in the Times, February 17 ?Please help us light up the town?. Do not chairman David Scrivener and the members of the Chamber of Commerce realise that unnecessary extra lighting of our cities, towns and villages adds to global warming and the dangers that this brings to the future of mankind? In my opinion, as long as street and road lighting is sufficient on the grounds of safety, then no extra lighting, whether at Christmas or any other time, is just a waste of local tax payers? money. AM I the only person to be amazed to learn that none of the multi-national companies trading in Tavistock contribute one penny towards the costs of the Christmas lights and Dickensian Evening? Shame on them! What an arrogant, penny-pinching lot they are. Well, shoppers of Tavistock, we hold the solution in our own hands (or purses). Show them what we think about their mean minded attitude ? boycott them. Take your business to the local traders who do pay for our town to look to its best at Christmas ? they deserve our full support and they will get it!
