A LEISURELY, twilight stroll over the Tavy and Walkham rivers followed by a burger and hot drink has been organised by the Lions Club of Tavistock next month.
The Lions Club has devised a charity stroll with a difference walking over the two rivers, through the recently opened tunnel at Grenofen and onto Gem Bridge, returning for refreshments at Crowndale.
With glow-sticks, torches and lanterns, it promises to be a procession of light along the new cyclepath, while raising money for Children's Hospice South West.
The walk will start at Tavistock Football Club in Crowndale Road, go through Bishopsmead and Tiddybrook, onto the new path at Anderton Lane and then on through the tunnel and over the bridge, returning using the same route. The walk is just over four miles so should only take a couple of hours.
The Lions are particularly hoping this walk will appeal to families and there will be glow-sticks provided free for children and torches available for a small charge. There will be checkpoints and stickers to collect along the way.
The walk will take place on Sunday, October 28 between 4pm and 5pm.
All the money raised will go to the hospice thanks to generous sponsorship from Kountry Kit in Tavistock and help from Tavistock Football Club. Walkers will be asked for a donation of £5 for adults over 16, £2 for children aged five and over and free for under fives.
Registration forms are available from Kountry Kit, the Times office in Brook Street or the Children's Hospice South West shop. Walkers an also just turn up on the day.
