LIFTON couple, Kevin and Lavinia Marshall are running for the second consecutive year in this year's Great North Run, which starts in Newcastle on Sunday, September 18 and finishes in South Shields.

They are raising funds for a community centre in Lifton, which is badly needed in the expanding village.

Lavinia said: 'I want to see a facility in Lifton where both young and old can go and enjoy a variety of activities in pleasant surroundings. The villagers deserve this.'

Plans for the centre have been on display at the Lifton Fete recently and will soon be ready to submit for planning permission. Kevin and Lavinia are hoping their efforts help provide funds towards the next phase of the project.
