COUNTRYSIDE Training Ltd, in association with Business Link Devon and Cornwall and ADAS are staging a one-day seminar focusing on conversion to organic milk production and how to make it work.
The seminar, to take place on Thursday April 6 at the Cedars Lodge Inn, Barnstaple, will be split into two parts.
The morning will focus on the organic market and address such questions as: Do I go organic? What is required to do so? How can I convert the farm?
The afternoon will look at a typical West Country dairy unit — Highdown Farm, Bradninch.
The presentation will be made my Mike Palacio, Senior Dairy Business Consultant with ADAS who specialised in Organic Milk Production and the day will be chaired by Graham Vallis, who farms a 430 acre dairy farm, milking 115 cows.
His farm started producing organic milk in July 1999.
Nick Clatworthy of Countryside Training Ltd, commenting on the seminar said: 'Organic farming as a system of production is gaining a high profile in the media.
The market is expanding rapidly and appears to offer a good return to those who really want to farm this way.
This one-day seminar is intended to benefit any dairy farmer who is interested in conversion to organic dairy and dairy farmers already in conversion.'
