HEART attack victims in Callington will soon be able to access vital life-saving equipment very rapidly.
The town's St John Ambulance brigade is to buy a defibrillator.
This can very quickly administer first aid to a malfunctioning, or even a non-functioning, heart to increase the chances of survival following a cardiac accident.
Most of the money will come from the Callington Lions which is donating £1,000 raised during this summer's Gala Day.
The town council has chipped in with an additional £250.
Roger Denley of St John in Callington said they had enough money to buy a machine that can print out a trace of the heart's rhythm, a vital source of information for paramedics when it comes to treating such injuries.
The defibrillator will be kept at the St John ambulance station and four or five St John volunteers will be trained in its use.
'We will be on 24 hour call and will be able to get to most places within minutes, dramatically improving the chances for survival after a heart attack,' said Mr Denley.
