IN the article (March 8) about the Tidy Tavy Day of March 3, readers were given the impression that the dumping of bundles of Lidl advertising leaflets was an ongoing problem. This is not so. Closer inspection of the bundles showed that they had been there since September, probably left by the same person who abandoned the others we found dated last autumn.
The managers at Lidl have always taken this problem seriously and the steps they and the distributor have taken should have solved it, as far as that is possible. They stress that people who come across quantities of their brochures should report it to the store or to West Devon Borough Council.
I'm particularly sorry about this error because Lidl has always been scrupulous about keeping its site clean and tidy.
I'd like to add that there is some nasty stuff thrown away. If people find things like containers of unidentifiable liquid they should tell West Devon Council so that they can remove them safely.
On a lighter note, the next Tidy Tavy Day, which is on Easter Saturday, will include a competition for the best (or most effective) Easter bonnet: prizes given for his and hers. Looking forward to admiring some original creations.
