PEOPLE in Devon want more decisions taken locally, the area?s prospective parliamentary Liberal Democrat told a national radio audience.
David Walter was speaking in a discussion on The World Tonight on Radio 4 with prominent prospective candidates from the other main parties.
He said the common thread underlying most local concerns was the feeling that London Government was trying to control too much. Red tape and unnecessary targets were preventing doctors, nurses, police and teachers from getting on with their jobs in the most effective way,? he added.
The discussion followed the Liberal Democrat successes in the by-election in Leicester. Mr Walter said the war in Iraq had been as unpopular in Devon as in those two cities, as had been the issue of choice between schools and hospitals.
