Whitchurch v Lewdown
IN the end this was a resounding victory for league leaders Lewdown although earlier in the game Wayfarers had given the visitors a bit of a shock.
Opening his account for the first XI Josh Vernon bowled with real venom and prodigious swing. Unlucky not to get more than the one wicket he kept the batsmen on their toes and is a real prospect for the future. From the other end Trembath (3-52) pegged back the top order. While the batting was difficult the score kept moving along with a mixture of edges and fine shots with Weeks (39) being particularly hard on anything loose.
The introduction of Freddy Frost (5-21) ripped away the rest of Lewdown and the leaders were all out for 153 on the stroke of 4pm. This was the first time this season that Whitchurch had bowled out a side and the five bowling points may prove invaluable at the end of the season.
There was always a concern that the opening bowlers for Lewdown would also make good use of the favourable conditions and this proved to be the case as Mutch (5-35) and Yeo (4-34) tore into the Whitchurch batting.
Richard Hall stood his ground for a determined innings showing considerable fortitude as he watch colleagues come and go. In the end the result was never in much doubt.
Only one batsman scored more than 10. Josh Meadows coming in at number eight took the bowling on and hit 8 four's and a six in an entertaining 41.
So a very strong Lewdown side move on with a real prospect of being in Division C next year while Whitchurch need a win to keep in touch.
