Tamar League Lewdown Seconds v Ordulph LOSING the toss Ordulph were instructed to toil in the field against high riding Lewdown on Saturday. Lewdown got off to a flier with opener Ollie Brown capitalising on some inconsistent Ordulph bowling from Mills with some aggressive shots. Ordulph?s Bellamy from the river end though was bowling with nice pace and was rewarded in the sixth over with the scalp of Lewdown?s skipper Worth, clean bowled. Shortly after this, Lewdown?s Brown was caught out. This proved to be costly as Brown went on to punish Ordulph big style. With 80 on the board after 13 overs, a massive score was looking on the cards for Lewdown. Bowling changes with Smith from the river end and Lethbridge from the school end brought some semblance of order to proceedings with the run rate brought under control to a manageable rate. Three wickets for Smith was just reward for his endeavours, including the prize wicket of Brown, who by now had amassed 133 runs. With further runs from Martin 28 and rapid 19 from Rob Squire allowed Lewdown to post a useful 219 for 5 after 40 overs. The feeling in the Ordulph camp was that this could have been a lot worse. In order to reach this total Ordulph had to get a move on early in their innings, this proved easier said than done with Vernon and R Squire putting enough balls in the right area to make this difficult for the Ordulph batsmen. Losing in-form Evans cheaply to Vernon did nothing to help matters as the Ordulph run rate was going along at a modest rate. With only 70 on the board after 20 overs, the pressure was on for Ordulph. Finnigan (37) tried his best to push things along but kept on finding fielders, so it was left to Sutton with a valiant 68 to keep Ordulph in the race. A bowling change from Lewdown brought no respite to Ordulph with Worth proving equally hard to get away as the other bowlers. Runs from Chappell with a quick 20 and Rotton with a 22 blast was too little too late as the run rate now over 8 an over was proving too much for the Ordulph. Finishing on a brave 198 for 8 Ordulph could reflect on ?if only? and ?what could have been?. This week Ordulph entertain Cornwood at Kelly College.
