Yelverton Seconds v Brixham
IN the penultimate league match of the season against third placed Brixham, Yelverton were involved in a thrilling tie with both sides dismissed for the same score.
Yelverton won the toss and asked Brixham to bat. Yelverton's opening bowlers Tom Trevarthen and G Heath made early inroads into the Brixham top order, reducing them to 21-3.
Brixham's fourth wicket pair staged a mini recovery, before both batsmen fell in quick order to Heath and Goodwin.
After 23 overs Brixham were a wobbly 71-5, but a series of 20+ partnerships for the last five wickets saw them dismissed for a total of 154 off 44 overs.
Yelverton's catching was superb, with Tom Trevarthen taking 3 and his wicketkeeping brother Alex 2.
On an unpredictable wicket, Yelverton needed a steady start, but both openers were back in the pavilion with the score on 20.
A number of small partnerships moved the score steadily towards the required total, but the loss of 3 quick wickets before the score reached 90 left Yelverton on 89 - 8 and staring defeat in the face.
Brixham might have expected an early shower, but they reckoned without the batting of I Pring and G Heath who put on 55 runs for the ninth wicket to frustrate Brixham and put Yelverton within sight of the winning post.
Heath departed for 17 with the score on 144 and just 10 runs required and was replaced by Yelverton No 11 A Munton.
Pring and Munton eked out another 10 runs and thought that they had won the game after Pring scored a 4 through the vacant third man area.
Yelverton's team rushed out onto the pitch to congratulate Pring and Munton, but the scorers had miscounted and the scores were level. Pring returned to the crease but was out 2 balls later as he looked for the winning run.
