SHOPPING in Tavistock last Friday, out of interest I collected from the pannier market some pretty posters advertising Tavistock?s success at being the Best Market Town in England.
Subsequently, I was quite surprised that many shops I purchased from were quite unaware of this accolade and I was only too happy to hand over my posters for display in their windows.
The small friendly privately owned, and often family run business, selling what local people want, gives Tavistock its distinctiveness, viability and attractiveness.
Surely a visit to each premises, talking to the proprietors, at the least offering a poster for display in their window, would be an indication of how much they are valued as part of Tavistock?s success in being projected on to the national arena.
