THE police authority arranged a meeting for Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators, at the police station last Thursday evening to inform us about the new digital cascade system.
This is a new system to make it quicker to get information to us with regards to any crimes which we should be aware of.
As I had another meeting that evening and was unable to attend, two of our members were there on my behalf. How many other people were there? None!
I think it is a disgrace that when the police are working with us to prevent as much crime as possible, no other representative from Neighbourhood Watch groups in the Okehampton area took the trouble to attend this meeting, which had been arranged in January.
So I would say to members of Neighbourhood Watch in Okehampton: Has your co-ordinator got the time and commitment to do the job they volunteered to do? It is not very time-consuming.
If not, call a meeting of your group and appoint a new co-ordinator. Then we should have an efficient organisation which will support the police in their efforts to keep Okehampton a peaceful and pleasant town in which to live.
