MY wife and I are relatively new residents on Kilworthy Road (an extension of Trelawney Road for those who might confuse it with Kilworthy Park or Kilworthy Hill).

We are amazed and distressed by the lack of parking restrictions on Trelawney Road and the problems which frequently occur as a result.

Last week, the re-cycling lorry tried on two consecutive days to pass the parked cars and was unable to do so.

It is not uncommon to see other lorries and large vehicles, such as buses carrying players to a rugby club fixture, unable to pass because of the idiotic parking which is allowed on both sides of the narrow road all the way in from Drake Road.

It is understandable and entirely reasonable that residents of Trelawney Road be allowed to park outside their homes on the north side of the road.

That any other parking is permitted, especially on any portion of the south side of the road, is untenable and dangerous. No emergency vehicle could pass along Trelawney Road or Kilworthy Road for much of the day.

This is all the more incomprehensible since there is a private school facility at Kilworthy House, a farm and a potential heritage tourism site, not to mention the beleaguered residents, for which Trelawney Road is the only access.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this matter has been raised in the past and that no action has been deemed necessary.

One notes, however, that the much wider road to the south of Trelawney, Kilworthy Park, which gives access to the West Devon Borough Council Offices, is double yellow-lined on both sides!

It is hard to understand why Tavistock Town Council will not address this matter. Must we wait for a disaster to occur because an emergency vehicle cannot pass through before common sense will prevail?

Let us have sensible parking restrictions on Trelawney Road without delay.
