Exeter University 3 Okehampton 2nds 0 PLAYING in the Sunday Plymouth and District League, the Okehampton Ladies Hockey Seconds started cautiously against an older university team and conceded an early goal. Gaining in confidence, Okehampton forwards Grace Thorp and Sophie Cunnington made some penetrating runs at the University defence, but were unable to convert them into goals. Despite good marking by defenders Amanda Simm and Jane Hignett the students added to their tally before half time. The second half saw a more confident Okehampton team, led by centre half Sarah Toms, who distributed the ball with style. She was well supported in midfield by Sarah Jones and Abi Colton. Abi Little and captain Hannah Whitely combined to score. The Okehampton defence conceded a breakaway goal midway through the half, and Sophie Whitely?s commanding performance in the Okehampton goal squashed any other goal scoring chances that the students had. A much improved all round team performance will give the girls confidence for their next league match against Plymouth University.
