MORE than 150 Mormons lent a helping hand at West Devon charity CHICKS? new site at Brentor last Saturday, in preparation for its grand opening. People of all ages throughout Devon and Cornwall were taking part in the international Helping Hands programme of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Everyone joined in doing three jobs for the charity. They dug out, lined and filled with sand a beach volleyball court, whitewashed the surrounds of the basketball court, so children can leave their own artwork on the wall and did general gardening and tidying work. The earth dug out from the volleyball pitch was later used to fill in a pond. CHICKS (Country Holiday for Inner City Kids) is a charity which provides free holidays for disadvantaged children throughout the UK. Each year it offers some 700 children a respite break. This Saturday groups across the UK will be working on a variety of projects in their local areas. The Devon and Cornwall group worked at CHICKS last Saturday to fit in with the charity?s timetable, a smaller group will be helping at the forthcoming open day.
