A TAVISTOCK taxi firm is hoping to help people affected by the flooding in parts of Somerset by taking part in the Somerset Flood Crisis Appeal and transporting aid to people evacuated from the Somerset Levels.

Carole and Richard Nally from Jay Cars Taxi Service are hoping people in the Tavistock community will donate supplies which they will then take up to the drop off point in Bristol.

Carole said they were mostly looking for blankets, bedding, nappies, bottled water, energy drinks, chocolate, tins and packets of food and long-life food products as well as waterproofs, gloves and wellies.

She said: 'It's nice to do something for people in need. We are all suffering in some way but it pales in comparison with what they are going through.

'I'm not known for my compassion but seeing photos of the animals up to their bellies in water was so sad to see.'

Carole expressed thanks to people that have already donated, including Tavistock Bathrooms and Tiles, the Pasty House in Tavistock, Andy Maddock Floors and Tiling, FCC Environment in Okehampton, Dartprint, Ron's Pets, Cornwall Farmers and Brian Higgins.

Jay Cars will be holding a collection in the foyer of Morrisons on Saturday, where people can drop off donations. Donations can also be made to Jay Cars drivers in town.
