VISITORS to Okehampton Castle should prepare for all manner of strange encounters as the site officially opens for the 2005 season. The ruins of the oldest castle in Devon will play host to a number of special events planned to allow visitors to come face to face with the past. In the summer, medieval group Heuristics conjure up the atmosphere of medieval times through their authentic games and toys. Visitors can discover how people spent their leisure time in the Middle Ages through the displays of sports, pastimes and games ? and even have a go themselves. Costumed performers will also give an entertaining look at our industrial heritage. Fun and informative talks will let visitors into the secrets behind inventions such as the aqueduct and windmill. Sales and marketing manager Andrea Fox said they were ?extremely excited? about the 2005 programme. ?Coming along to the events, or better still becoming a member of English Heritage, is a great way for people to travel back in time and enjoy this amazing location.?
