RECOGNITION for their outstanding work supporting the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, has been given to six people in the Yelverton area.

Yelverton and District Royal British Legion President Major General Nick Vaux presented poppy appeal awards to dedicated collectors at a social evening at the Devon Tors Hotel.

Leslie Cribbet from Princetown received a badge of merit for all his work for the legion over 25 years. Mrs Linda Downing and Mrs Tessa Thompson, from Buckland Monachorum, both received certificates in recognition of the work aiding the legion.

Not able to attend but also in receipt of certificates were Mr Brown from Bickleigh and Mr Jones from Shaugh Prior. A merit badge for 25 years of work for the legion was also awarded to Miss Molly Elliot.

As Remembrance time comes around again, poppy appeal collectors are desperately needed. The Royal British Legion is grateful for the hours volunteers spend trudging from home to home — often in pouring rain — collecting money.
