THE Okehampton Branch of the Royal British Legion will reflect on a busy year when it hold its annual meeting later this month. The meeting will be held at the RBL social club in Station Road, Okehampton, on Monday, November 21, starting at 7.30pm. The Okehampton branch continues to be very active locally, particularly this year with the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the end of the second world war. The participation of the National Youth Band of the Royal British Legion for a commemorative parade through the centre of Okehampton on September 10 was a branch initiative. Okehampton branch has also been especially successful in recent years promoting the legion?s work for the benefit of ex-servicemen and women and their dependents. The branch is in dire need of younger blood to safeguard the organisation?s future. Membership is open to everyone ? former service with the armed forces is not a requirement. All members are urged to make every effort to attend the meeting. Names of members wishing to be nominated for election to the branch committee should be entered on the list posted on the club notice-board by Friday, November 18. Likewise, any item for inclusion in the agenda should be notified to the branch secretary by the same date.
