TAVISTOCK Cricket Club president Stuart Munday has been recognised for his outstanding services to cricket.

Stuart finished runner-up in his category in the English Cricket Board OSCAs (Outstanding?Services to Cricket) following his nomination by the Devon Cricket Board.

This national award was presented by England opening bowler Steve Finn at a luncheon for 400 held at Lords, in London, the 'spiritual home of the game'.

Many cricketing celebrities attended to present the various awards in eight different categories.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan led the way with other cricketing stars such as ECB chairman Paul Downton, Graham Swann, Mike Gatting and Steve Finn.

Stuart was nominated for his outstanding contribution to recreational cricket, for his constant efforts as chairman of the Devon Cricket League, president of Tavistock CC, a representative for Devon and Cornwall on the Lords Taverners' committee and a trustee on the David Shepherd Cricket Trust, which is the leading funder of youth cricket in Devon.

This year has been one of particular celebration for Stuart as he turned 70 in May and has also celebrated 50 years with Tavistock Cricket Club.

Stuart told the Times: 'I greatly appreciate this nomination and award but I am only too happy to be able to repay some of what I have gained from cricket during so many years.'

Jim Wood, the chairman of the Devon Cricket Board, was full of praise for Stuart and the other Devon nominees for the OSCAs.

He told the Times: 'Stuart is an amazing character who, in terms of cricket, just does everything, whether it's at Tavistock Cricket Club, for Devon County Cricket or as Devon Cricket League chairman — he is a man of many talents.

'I am obviously delighted he has been named as runner-up and he only lost out as overall winner to an exceptional nominee.

'The OSCAs are to reward those at grassroots level who put in so much hard work for the game and Stuart certainly more than deserves this accolade.'
