DARTMOOR Brewery presented Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group with a cash boost, thanks to one of their best-selling beers.

The brewery's Mark Shackleton said the donation came about thanks to the recent Rugby World cup, and their Legend ale.

Mark said: 'Brains Brewery of South Wales launched a beer earlier this year called Legends to coincide with the World Cup rugby tournament in New Zealand.

Five pence per pint from the sales of this beer was being donated to the Welsh Rugby Wooden Spoon Charity which helps disadvantaged children.

'We contacted them as we have registered the word Legend so they were infringing our copyright.

'We didn't really mind as proceeds from the sale of their beer was going to a worthwhile charity, but asked if they  could make a token payment for a local charity of our choice and they sent us the £500!'

Mark said the brewery was 'unexpectedly delighted' at the surprise donation, which was last week presented to Lyn Williams of the Tavistock branch of Dartmoor Search and Rescue.
