WEST Devon residents can now leave their mark in Tavistock thanks to two new fundraising schemes by the Crowndale Recreational Association. The association and its offshoot Tavistock Community Football Club recently announced the schemes whereby people can leave their mark on the Football Foundation's £1-million development of the 12-acre site at Crowndale. CRA chairman John Warne said: 'An integral part of our vision for the Crowndale Valley has always been to retain the valley as Tavistock's second green lung, along with Tavistock Meadows. 'We therefore plan to plant oak and beech trees, along with decorative silver birch trees, around the car park and main building to soften the development adjacent to Langsford Park, and, thus, improve the old TAFC grandstand area.' Mr Warne added that the association already had plans to commemorate three of its former members, now deceased, and to local people, now deceased, whose passion was the protection of the environment through the planting of trees and recording their name on a plaque in the new clubhouse. Chairperson of Tavistock Community Football Club Sue Hammond said: 'We also want to offer an opportunity, in particular, to the parents of local footballing youngsters, past and present, to purchase a brick bearing their child's name to be a part of the interior to the building's structure. But this can also be extended to anyone in our community who would like to be included in our exciting project.' The cost of a single brick will be £20. The cost of an oak, beech or silver birch tree will be dependant on size or type of tree chosen.
