TWO departments at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth are beneftting from donations by the League of Friends, which included many West Devon members.

Derriford Hospital's League of Friends presented almost £2,500 worth of equipment to two different departments last week.

It includes an erythema tester, which tests how much ultraviolet light patients can tolerate and Dermalite Pro is a magnifying glass with a light in it that allows dermatologists to more easily see and accurately identify potentially dangerous skin cancers.

Other donations are a Megabee communication device that allows patients who are unable to speak, for example those who have suffered from serious strokes or brain damage, to communicate using their eyes; the Laryngograph system to analyse the voices of patients who have voice problems by measuring pitch range, vocal fold contact, voice quality and volume, and digital voice recorders for recording the voices of patients with voice problems.
