Lausen fifty helps Hatherleigh women cricketers off to great start in league

HATHERLEIGH Women's cricket team started their season in the DWCA League with a convincing seven wicket win over Plymouth.

Plymouth batted first and, on a wicket where the ball often kept low, made 122 for 6 in 30 overs. 

Hatherleigh's most economical and successful bowlers were Mel Balsdon who took 3 for 12 and Anna Cherrington with 1 for 16.

Hatherleigh's reply was led by Frances Lausen (51 runs) and Clara Nielson (25 runs), and the win was achieved with four overs to spare.

• Hatherleigh has four players who play in Devon Girls' U13, U15 or U17 teams. Recently Clara Nielson (U17) played her first game for Devon Women in the County Championship and Frances Lausen (U17) was selected to play in the ECB's junior super twos competition.

Last week, Clare Reynolds took two wickets in Devon Girls U15's win over Dorset and Anna Cherrington scored 49 in Devon Girls U13's win also against Dorset.
