DEVON County Ladies? Golf Association held their silver open competition at Churston Golf Club on June 13. Yelverton Golf Club?s Laura Eastwood won the Stella Temple Cup for the best scratch score of 73 (standard scratch is 72) and Gilly Jarvis came fifth in the scratch section with a gross 81.
On May 25 the Yelverton ladies played the May extra medal. The Silver division was won by Maggie Flanagan with a net 70, Anne Ashley was runner up with a net 73 and third was Marie
Watson with a net 74. The Bronze division was won by Lilias Strachan with a net 72, Aine Binchy was runner up with a net 74 and third was Mary Stokes with a net 81. Anne Ashley, Maggie Flanagan and June Smalley all did a hole in two shots during the competition.
On June 5 the ladies played the June medal competition. Belinda McSherry won the Silver division with a net 70, runner-up was Barbara Perriton with a net 72 and Laura Eastwood was third with a net 73. The bronze division winner was Lilias Strachan with a net 75, runner up was Georgie Evans with a net 79 and third was Julie Percy with a net 81.
On June 12 the ladies played the qualifying round of the Express and Echo foursome competition. The winners were Gilly Jarvis and Diane Reardon with 31 points and runners-up were Mary Geen and Joyce Martin with 30 points. Both couples qualified to play in the regional finals, which will be held in Exeter in September.
The ladies have played many matches recently. In the scratch Still Cup competition, the team played an away match against East Devon on May 28, and won 5-2. They played a home match against Bigbury on June 2 and won 7-0.
The Devon league team played a home match against Teign Valley on June 9, and won 12 points to 0.
The team playing in the county Shelagh Creasy Bowl competition halved their match against Teignmouth away on June 3, 31/2-31/2.
Marie Watson won the Astor Trophy knock out competition after playing Barbara Perriton in the final.
In 2002 Gilly Jarvis won the ladies? club championship, which qualified her to play in the 2003 Izzo scratch competition. She has now won three rounds, away against players from Bigbury and Teignmouth and at home against Sally Cann from Saunton, which makes her the remaining player representing Devon and Cornwall.
