Plym Valley 1
Tavistock Ladies' Firsts 1
THE game opened with strong attacking hockey from Tavistock. Susannah Boulle and Laura Stapleton distributed the ball well and forwards Emma White and Laura Armstrong were determined to be dominant in the D.
Some members of the squad were putting into play attacking skills from training and were gaining confidence. With the hard work of Stapleton, Boulle, Armstrong and White the first goal was scored for Tavistock.
These four worked the ball up the pitch and allowed White to slot it past the keeper.
The opposition appealed the goal but the umpire stood his ground and 'marked up' the goal on his sheet. Tavistock allowed their concentration to drop and within minutes the opposition equalled the score.
Fiona Dunn had stopped the first attack on goal but did not have the back up in the D to prevent the rebound shot.
Goalkeeper Zoe Viggers did everything she could to stop the goal but the ball came at her fast and furious.
After a good team talk Tavistock appeared stronger in the second half. The strong passing of Sandra Collar, Steph Mills and Butler kept the ball high up in the attacking 25 yard area. White and Armstrong kept battling in the D until the final whistle and did the team proud.
The only time the opposition came into the D in the second half, there was no real threat as Dunn took the ball from the player and drove it up the pitch to a running Armstrong.
This week Tavistock are away to Newton Abbot in a friendly match. On Sunday they play Exmouth in the Devon Cup at Bickleigh Barracks at 11.30am.
Player of the match: Laura Armstrong.
