YELVERTON Golf Club ladies' section played an extra medal competition on September 27.

The silver division winner was Laura Eastwood with a net 74, second was Belinda McSherry with a net 76 and third was June Smalley with a net 77.

The bronze division was won by Helen Harris with a net 75, second was Pat Taylor with a net 76 and third was Lilias Strachen with a net 79.

On September 25, Yelverton entered a team in a ladies' charity event organised by Crediton Golf Club. This was the date for the Devon League finals, but the league was cancelled this year because of foot and mouth. The Yelverton team came third with 98 points.

On September 30, Yelverton hosted the Dartmoor Trophy, a mixed competition for golf clubs situated on Dartmoor.

The players were challenged by extreme Dartmoor weather with heavy rain and gale-force winds.

This year Dartmoor celebrated 50 years as a National Park and we were delighted to have chief executive Nick Atkinson to present the prizes.

Yelverton was first with 132 points, Teign Valley was second with 118 points and Wrangaton was third with 110 points.

Martin Fricker (Yelverton) did the longest drive on the fifth hole and Margaret Clarke (Wrangaton) was nearest the pin on the 12th hole.
