The Gaudeamus Chamber Orchestra, based in Riga, capital of Latvia, will be playing in Okehampton on a tour funded by the European Union. The Baltic states have long produced outstanding string players of international fame, such as Kamerata Baltica, the orchestra founded by Gidon Kremer. The Gaudeamus Chamber Orchestra, formed from leading students of the academy in Riga and their professors, is dedicated to promoting appreciation of the classical repertoire and active participation in music-making by young people. Combining passion with excellence of performance, they are great ambassadors for their country. The orchestra will perform in All Saints? Church, Okehampton, on Wednesday November 28 at 7.30pm. Their programme includes works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Bach and Grieg. Tickets, priced at £8 (£7 concessions) are available from P Stutt, YMS, The Old Malthouse, Vine Street, Winkleigh, EX19 8LB.
