Jackson Vending Devon & Exeter Senior 1
Thorverton 3
North Tawton 2
THIS result has dampened Tawton?s chances of winning the division.
Tawton started the brighter of the two teams, and mounted pressure on the Thorverton defence.
Thorverton, who had brought in three Firewatch League players for the match, did not really cause any major problems for the Tawton back four of Alan Grimshaw, Paul Burrow, Steve Ward and Darren Nicholls.
Tawton took the lead after good work down the right flank from Robert Board who had put immense pressure on the Thorverton right back. Board?s accurate pass across the goalmouth after robbing the right back lay waiting for the advancing Keith Steward to slot the ball into the home side?s net.
Thorverton levelled, but Tawton claimed the centre forward had clearly handled the ball into his path.
With seconds remaining of the first half, a lovely pass from the Tawton midfield allowed Ashley Arscott to break clear and coolly finish the move off to put Tawton ahead again.
The second half stepped up a gear and Thorverton showed signs of equalising. Their second came from a cross from the right and free header at the back post.
With 20 minutes left to play the Thorverton keeper was kept alert by a snap-shot by Rob Board which dragged just wide of the post.
Keith Steward looked as if he had scored the winner, but the home keeper made a great save to keep him out.
Five minutes from time and with visibility causing concern, Thorverton put the Tawton defence under pressure and a goalmouth pass was converted into the Tawton net.
Man of the match: Ashley Arscott.
