St Austell RFC U16s 24 Okehampton RFC U16s 24 THE U16s should have played a league fixture against Tavistock this weekend, but the Tavistock U16s have ceased, so a late fixture with St Austell was arranged. Unfortunately Okehampton only had 14 players. Okehampton started well and should have scored a couple of tries in the first 10 minutes but for wrong options, with St Austell scoring on their first attack. Okehampton?s centre then cut through, was stopped on the 22, Tom Richards took the ball at pace and drove on, quick ruck ball was spun wide to wing Carl Goodall who rounded his wing to score ? 7 all. St Austell again scored and Okehampton hit back when Rob Long ran in from halfway, and Poynton converted to take a two-point lead. St Austell scored again and just before half-time Rory Honeychurch sprinted in under the post ? 19-21 to Okehampton. The second half was end to end with both defences solid until the last seven minutes when St Austell scored to take the lead. Okehampton still kept the pressure on, and St Austell conceded another penalty, converted by Richard Friend to level the score. Okehampton then lost Carl Goodall through injury and now down to 12 men against 14 kept the pressure on. Good forward drives from Scott Simpson and Stuart Bennie got to within 10 metres of the try line. Dan Braime then drove on, was half tackled and managed to crash over to score, but the referee was unsighted and did not give the try as Okehampton deserved to win this entertaining game.
