Tavistock AFC 3
Clyst Rovers 2
THE Lambs maintained their lead at the top of the league after overcoming a determined Clyst Rove who played football that belied their lowly league position.
Tavistock were slow out of the blocks and had an early wake up call, when Clyst took the lead in the second minute. From a corner the ball was headed home by debutante Matt Micklewright.
The Lambs responded with some really good attacking football both Shane Krac and Ben Davies had good efforts brilliantly saved by the visitors keeper. However in the 14th minute the Lambs equalised when a Shane Krac free kick found captain Will Stringer, who tapped home from six yards.
The home side continued to put pressure on the visitors defence but found their keeper in tremendous form. He pulled off three great saves, from Hobbs, Carter and Stringer to keep his side on level terms.
In the 30th minute Glyn Hobbs cut inside to unleash a 35 yard shot that crashed against the base of the post, but on the stroke of half time he had better luck, when he collected a fine pass from Will Stringer and thumped the ball home from 20 yards.
Clyst showed great resolve and came out in determined mood in the second half. The Lambs had the ball in the net in the 49th minute but it was disallowed for an infringement.
Then Carter had a great chance to increase the home side lead but fired over the bar from 12 yards.
Clyst levelled the scores in the 55th minute when the impressive Micklewright netted with another free header at the far post.
However, their joy was short lived as Glyn Hobbs set up Adam Carter to hit an absolute screamer into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
This win maintains Tavistock's two point advantage at the top of the league.
This Saturday is the biggest game of the season so far, as Tavistock continue their dream of playing at Wembley, when they entertain Brockenhurst from the Southampton area, at Langsford Park in the second round of the FA Vase. Kick-off 3pm.
