Devon & Exeter Senior 1 Bickleigh 3 Okehampton Argyle 1st 3 BICKLEIGH adapted to the conditions of a very wet and muddy pitch far better than Argyle, although it was Argyle?s Steve Williams that hit the Bickleigh post within five minutes. Bickleigh took the lead on 25 minutes and added a second on 30 minutes with a scrambled effort. Still under pressure Argyle battled hard and when they were able to get the ball out wide both Paul Yip and Mathew King posed a threat. Adam Mortimore pulled a goal back just before the interval when his shot went underneath the Bickleigh keeper. Okehampton?s coaches Stuart Cann and Neil Agnew had some firm words with the team at half time and Argyle played with a lot more purpose and commitment throughout the second half. On 55 minutes Argyle were awarded a penalty when the Bickleigh keeper rushed out and brought down Adam Mortimore, leaving James Williams to convert the penalty. With the game flowing from end to end and the pitch breaking up, defending became very difficult. But Argyle?s Graham Soby won the aerial battle and was very well supported by young Mathew Mortimore. Okehampton?s third goal and their best came from a good move down the right wing involving Mathew King, Steve Kinsey and Steve Williams. After a series of passes Williams found himself in space and finished superbly, giving the keeper no chance. With 15 minutes remaining Bickleigh started to make some changes and brought on three substitutes. This seemed to inject some pace into the Bickleigh attack and on 88 minutes they were rewarded when Okehampton?s keeper Daniel Malcolm could only palm away a powerful shot into the path of the Bickleigh striker to level the score and share the points. This week sees Okehampton take on Bickleigh again in the league, kick-off 3pm. Followed by the Okehampton Cup semi final against Heavitree Utd, both home fixtures.
