Liskeard Athletic 2

Tavistock AFC 1

A MINUTE'S silence was held before the kick off in memory of Shelia Fenner who died on Wednesday, October 13. Shelia worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the Lambs and held the position of club secretary and treasurer until illness forced her to give up these positions.

The Lambs put in a very disappointing performance at Lux Park, and to cap it all the home team scored the winning goal in the very last minute.

The visitors would have taken a draw from what was another lack lustre team performance.

The inclusion of new signings Ryan Fice, Ryan Honey and the return of Martin Sullivan from injury, failed to improve the Lambs attacking force.

The game was even in the first half, and to be fair it did flow from end to end with both sides creating chances to open their account.

Joe Carey had a chance to open the scoring for the home side in the fourth minute but his angle lob over Andy Meeds hit the far post and was cleared. The Lambs hit back and Jamie Ahearn's flashing header cannoned back off the hosts cross bar. But poor finishing and some resolute defending from both teams kept the half goalless.

Early in the second half Liskeard were denied when Garry Williams made a superb clearance off the goal line to deny Joe Knight's from scoring.

It was the visitors who took the lead in the 55th minute when Dan Pethick's solo run was superbly finished off with an explosive shot that nestled in the top corner of Matt Brown's net. The same player had two further opportunities to increase the Lambs lead but failed to find the target.

With 18 minutes remaining the home side equalised Steve Murphy's pass, sent Carey through and although Andy Meeds parried the shot, substitute Lee Cears forced the loose ball home at the second attempt.

Then in the dying seconds a through ball found Cears who burst clear on the right, his low cross found Kanakh who gleefully steered the ball home from close range for the home side to take all three points.

n Tomorrow (Friday) the Lambs visit Bodmin Town in the Throgmorton Cup, kick-off 7.30pm. On Saturday the Reserves are at home to St Dennis, kick-off 3 pm.
