Tavistock Colts 5 Launceston Colts 5 ALL the defence drills in the past three weeks seem to have paid off as Tavistock spent most of the first half in their own half but Launceston could not break through. Tavistock?s forwards struggled to clear out rucks to give scrum half Rob Milligan quick ball for his backs to run. They were always on the back foot and had to kick away possession. Tavistock took a long time to get going but the pack started to dominate in the second half. Scott Pluckrose and Mike Morgan were taking their own lineout ball, giving the backs better options and front row trio Carl Myatt, Hammy Kerswill and Jason Ward won the scrummage battle. Launceston started to use the slope and kick to the corners, giving full back Alex Bointon plenty of work to do. Josh O?Neill, back from injury, played his usual abrasive game and stole a lot of ball or forced the penalty but man of the match for Tavistock was second row Mike Morgan, not only for his lineout success but the amount of work around the park and tackle count. Halfway through the second half Launceston scored a try and must have thought that would win the game, but Tavistock showed great spirit and came back on the attack. For the last 15 minutes Launceston had to defend and another mazy run by Andrew Smerdon could not not be stopped. He scored in the corner but was too far out to convert. In the last minutes Josh Brown chased a kick ahead and the Launceston wing failed to gather. Brown raced for the try line but was tackled short which brought the end to another exciting game. This week Tavistock play Devonport Services at home 2.30pm.
