TAVISTOCK has a new community constable.
As from last week, PC Larry Base has been appointed 'permanently' to the position.
He has been fulfilling the role for several months in an acting capacity, while Tavistock's former community constable Dave Grimbly was acting sergeant in Okehampton.
PC Grimbly is returning to Tavistock to continue as acting sergeant, pending appointment to a permanent post.
PC Base, 45, has been a policeman for 26 years. Most recently, he has been based in Okehampton, but has also worked in Plymouth. He lives in Tavistock and was also stationed in the town during the late 1980s, early 90s.
'I know the town and a lot of the people well,' he said. 'I aim to continue the good public policing role and I want to involve the public more.'
PC Base is keen to hear from all sections of the community about their own policing concerns.
'I want to hear what they think are the problems in their part of the community,' he said.
PC Base will doubtless be a prominent figure on Tavistock's streets or can be contacted at Tavistock police station or on 0990 777444.
