FIREFIGHTERS from Tavistock and Yelverton were sent to reports of a large shed fire in Grenofen on Saturday morning.

On arrival at around 6.15am, crews found the shed, measuring 10m by 8m and containing farm machinery and motor vehicles, well alight. An adjoining building containing animals was evacuated.

Crews used four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, small tools and compressed air foam to try to deal with the fire.

At 7.22am steady progress was being made, breathing apparatus sets were reduced to two and crews started using a positive pressure ventilation fan. Western Power were also in attendance.

At 9.32am the crews had managed to extinguish the fire, which left the shed 70% damaged by heat and smoke.
