Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 3 Launceston 0 THE Lambs finally got themselves out of the bottom two for the first time since the middle of September with their third victory of the season. It was well worth the wait against a Launceston side who gained a very good victory against much fancied Bodmin in the Cornwall Senior Cup Final on Easter Monday. The Lambs put the Clarets on the defensive right from the start. Matt Martin headed wide after just three minutes and two minutes later he finished off a fine move as James Cole?s low ball into the edge of the area saw Paul Adcock flick it on for Martin to put the ball across the front of Paul Hider and into the far corner. Hider did well to prevent the Lambs going two up after 12 minutes when he came rushing off his line to block Mark Conday?s shot. Tavistock?s Andy Meeds was then called into action when Liam Tilley broke away down the left for the keeper to block his shot and then Andy Sargeant?s follow up was finally cleared away by Cole. A nasty head injury to ex-Lambs Jon Dawe saw him have to leave the field of play and take no further part to be replaced by Jamie. Conday shot wide after Hider had palmed away a Fergus Nevin free kick before Launceston almost got back on level terms in what would have been in controversial fashion. It appeared to be a Lambs throw in their own half but it was given to the visitors and the quick throw in allowed Rowe to get clear but a last ditch challenge by Cole and a weak shot by Rowe saved the day. A slender one goal half time lead did not appear to be enough but the Lambs came out with the same intent in the second half with Will Westlake having a shot at the keeper in the first minute. Mark Wall volleyed over before they got the all important second. Ahearne failed to deal with a high ball at the edge of the area for Adcock to pounce and send the ball in across the area for Conday to smash home despite Hider getting a touch. Robbie Bowker then shot wide for the visitors when well placed and ex Lambs Paul Smith put a free kick into the hands of Meeds. Westlake went close again on two occasions and there was very little action in the last 20 minutes except for Martin receiving an injury in the 88th minute that turned out to be a broken tibia in his lower leg that over all left a sad note on a very good performance. A lengthy stop meant added time and the Lambs took full advantage when Meeds? long kick out caught everyone out except Adcock who raced onto the ball to coolly lob Hider from 30 metres out to put the icing on the cake and a very deserved victory. With the season drawing to a close there are many games to be played at Langsford Park in the next three weeks. Tomorrow (Friday) Tavistock U18s v Callington, kick-off time to be arranged. Saturday the Lambs take on fellow strugglers Porthleven at Langsford Park with a 3pm kick off in a crucial match in which victory would see them creep further away from re election.
