Pre-season friendly Barnstaple 1 Tavistock 3 THE Lambs bounced back from a heavy defeat against Chester City with this convincing win against Screwfix Premier opposition. It did not look too good for the Lambs prior to the start with keeper Andy Meeds twisting an ankle in the warm-up but the hosts allowed their substitute keeper Ross Saunders to guest for the Lambs. It was a tentative start for the Lambs but they went ahead in spectacular fashion after just seven minutes when Shane Krac got hold of the ball 35 yards out to lash it high into the top corner, giving keeper Vaughan little chance. The home side were level after 20 minutes. From a free kick the ball was half cleared for Jake Crush to stride forward. Despite a couple of challenges the ball fell kindly for him to volley with the outside of his boot high into Saunders? top corner for another quality strike. The Lambs gained the initiative five minutes later when hard working Conday was pushed in the area, John Curtis drilled his spot kick low into the bottom corner. The keepers swapped over at half time but it was just four minutes old when James Steer threaded through a ball for Glyn Hobbs to reach and stab wide of Saunders for Tavistock?s third. In the first half Vaughan did not impress the home crowd but he redeemed himself in the second to the delight of the Lambs faithful, who made the long trip to North Devon, with a double save on 72 minutes. He saved again on 75 minutes to keep the Lambs in the driving seat for them to run out worthy winners. A good all round performance from all the new signings and if this is anything to go by we are in for a good season at Langsford Park. l Fixtures ? Pre-season friendly Buckland Athletic 1 Tavistock 2 THE Lambs? pre-season continued with this impressive performance against their Devon League hosts. They got off to the perfect start, going ahead in the third minute when Glynn Hobbs laid the ball back for James Steer to cross. The ball was not cleared and Jon Morris on the edge of the area shot low into Paul Sharples? bottom corner. The remainder of the half turned into a midfield affair but the Lambs created three good chances in as many minutes close to the break with Chris Menhinnick hitting the side netting, the rear stanchion and finally shooting across the face of the goal and going just wide. The Lambs continued their dominance in the second half and went further ahead on the hour. Shane Krac?s through ball for Hobbs saw Sharples race off his line but his poor clearance fell to Steer to turn inside and lob the ball over the stranded keeper. The home side responded immediately from the kick off but Andy Meeds brought a great save to tip over a goalbound shot. It was not until the final minute before the home side got on the scoresheet with a rather fortunate goal. Harvey?s shot from the corner of the area took a deflection off the heel of Will Stringer to deceive Meeds in what was the final kick of the game.
