Penzance 0
Tavistock AFC 1
THE Lambs put in a sterling performance at Penlee Park, and deservedly came away with a hard earned three points.
It was always going to be a tough task, as Penzance are one of the form teams in the league, currently in sixth position, but the Lambs came through with flying colours.
This was a closely fought contest, on a poor playing surface. To be fair both teams, who found it difficult to get the ball down and play, on a bumpy playing surface, tried their best and provided an entertaining match.
The Lambs started well and went close and had an appeal for a penalty turned down when a cross from Dan Pethick, looked to be handle in the box by Devine, but the referee waved play on. Shortly afterwards a free kick from outside the box was scrambled clear by the home defence.
This stirred the home team into action and in the tenth minute they thought they had taken the lead, when Jamie Devine's cross was headed across goal by Danny Magee, for Matt Shields who was clearly in an off side position to head home. After this scare the visitors defence looked calm under pressure.
The Magpies then took control and dominated the visitors for a period, but the Lambs defence showed they were made of stern stuff and reduced the hosts to long range shots. Andy Meeds was in fine form, and was called on to make a fine save from Jamie Thirckle. As half time approached the Lambs almost took the lead when from a free kick from just outside the penalty was met by Jamie Ahern but his shot was easily saved by the goal keeper.
In the second half the visitors up their game and put their hosts under more pressure. After Magee fired his free kick well wide of the Lambs goal, they started to take control and put the home defence under pressure, during which they squandered a couple of good chances to take the lead.
In the 70 the minute the Lambs got their reward, when home keeper Danny Burrows dithered on the ball from a pass back, which allowed Levi Landricombe to dispossess him and tap the ball into an empty net.
The hosts tried their up most to get an equaliser but the Lambs' defence stood firm and fully deserved to keep a clean sheet on the day.
This was a good performance by the team.
