IT will be a meeting of the Eagles and the Lambs when top Championship side Crystal Palace come to Tavistock Football Club next Monday. Palace, nicknamed the Eagles, will play Tavistock in a pre- season friendly — and the South West Peninsula League Premier side are calling on people to come and cheer on the Lambs at Langsford Park. Tavistock chairman Derek Pethick said the fixture had been arranged thanks to good relations with Palace manager Neil Warnock, who brought his previous club, Sheffield United, to Langsford Park a few seasons ago. Said Derek: 'We were delighted when Neil agreed to give us a game. We would like as many people as possible to support this fixture in the hope that we can get more big clubs down here in the future. 'Crystal Palace will play a very strong squad, with many first team players.' The Eagles' stars include midfielders Carl Fletcher and John Bostock and striker Scott Sinclair. Derek said the Tavistock players had been in 'strenuous' training for the last three weeks in preparation for the game and were really looking forward to it. He added that if people could buy tickets before Monday it would help the club to control entry to the ground. Tickets are available from sponsors Tavistock Tyres on Plymouth Road Industrial Estate, Active Co in Market Street, Mainly Stationery in Brook Street and Tavistock Hire Centre in Pixon Lane. People wishing to buy a ticket at the ground are recommended to arrive early. The game kicks off at 7pm on Monday, July 21. The Red & Black Club will be open and there will be a barbecue and outside bar.
