Tavistock 3
Callington Town 3
TWELVE goals in two games, albeit three in the home town's net, is far from depressing for a Lambs outfit undergoing a thorough refit, and all praise to unfancied Callington in this encounter, whose manager Ian Southcott has never lost a match at the Lambs headquarters.
Despite Tavistock's slight territorial advantage in the opening half hour it was Town's Matt Martin who went closest in the 26th minute, bringing out a full-stretch save from Andy Meeds in the Lambs goal. Ten minutes later the Lambs went ahead when Jeff Babb converted a precision Tony Thirlby cross with his competent finishing.
Four minutes later, it was all square, when a mix-up between the Tavistock defence and 'keeper Meeds let in Lance Bailey for the equaliser. Tavistock responded immediately and within 30 seconds, John Gosling must have threatened the world 50 metres record when he collected the ball just inside the Callington half and darting down the right, cut in and stroked the ball beyond the Town 'keeper.
The second half was only three minutes old when an enforced Callington substitution saw the injured Simon Courts replaced by past Tavistock player Simon Pocknell.
In the 67th minute, a through-ball to Tony Thirlby witnessed the midfielder rounding the Town 'keeper and firing home for his first league goal for Tavistock and a 3-1 lead.
The game by now had all the ingredients of a local derby - there were no favours asked and none given.
Seventeen minutes from normal time, Chris Gerry reduced the Town arrears following another defensive blunder and the Lambs management combined in a dug-out discussion to bring on Chris Gott and Darren Babb for the tiring Thirlby and Andy Parnowski.
In the last ten minutes, Callington began to run the home side ragged and Callington manager Southcott's inspirational substitution with eight minutes to go saw Gary Williams come on for the outstanding but tiring Matt Martin.
A minute from normal time and the substitution brought dividends, when Williams found the net for the equaliser.
In time added on for injuries, Jeff Babb almost secured all three points for the Lambs, but his 20-yard strike rebounded off the crossbar.

Liskeard 2
Tavistock 2
THE Lambs were at full strength with central defenders Graeme Kirkup and Darren Babb starting in the heart of defence.
The game got off to a good start for the Lambs and could have been better had John Gosling's first-minute effort slid inside the post.
But they gave an early goal away in the eighth minute when a throw out by keeper Andy Meeds to Gosling was intercepted by Graeme Mcmillan to allow Andy Sargeant to go on and beat Meeds from 12 yards.
But Tavistock were soon back on level terms. They were awarded a free kick inside the Blues half and Nathan Blamey touched it off to Anthony Thirlby to stride forward a few yards and send it over keeper Steve Nute for a deserved equaliser.
The Lambs had further chances in the half with Jeff Babb striking the woodwork. The best fell to Lee Cansfield a minute before half-time when the ball fell kindly for him in the area but he dwelled on it too long and his shot was blocked.
Darren Babb came off at half-time to be replaced by Craig Hodge. Both sides had chances early on but it was Liskeard who went into the lead again. A Lambs attack broke up down the flank and the ball was over the defence, Kirkup's back pass did not have enough power on it and Sargeant nipped in to steal the ball and send it past Meeds for his second.
With 20 minutes remaining the Lambs levelled again with a well worked goal and again it was Blamey the provider as he put Thirlby in running from deep to chip the onrushing Nute.
The Lambs remain unbeaten after four games with one win and three draws and were content with this last point away from home.
