WITH five regular squad members away, Tavistock knew that they were going to have to play this match extremely safely in order to secure the win. Tavistock had numerous drives up the pitch from Sue Gawman and Emma Bowden, but Falmouth Seconds were quick to intercept the ball and regain possession.
Tavistock, although the much stronger team on the pitch, were unable to push through the Falmouth defence and consequently came under attack in their own D. The quick response of keeper Rebecca Creasy, and timely interceptions of Jill Court prevented Falmouth from scoring. Numerous short corners were awarded to Falmouth but the speed and determination from Fiona Dunn, Steph Mills and Babs Horton made them lose the ball every time.
July Miller slotted some excellent balls into the D but Tavistock were unfortunate not to get on the end of them. However, the team?s luck began to change and a good ball in from Gawman allowed Bowden to push the ball past the keeper.
During the second half, Tavistock looked like a completely new team. The forward line pushed hard and really kept the opposition?s defence on their toes.
It was the battling from Hutton, Gawman and Bowden which enabled Miller to slot the second goal past the keeper.
It was only with seven minutes left that Falmouth had a lucky goal.
This week, Tavistock are away to Mannamead Seconds at Marjons,11am push back.
