TAVISTOCK will be bitterly dissapointed with Saturday?s result after a very promising pre-season programme. Despite dominating nearly all of the game it was not to be the Lambs? day.

The home side spent much of the first 30 minutes in their opponents? half but were unable to take advantage of having most of the play.

After 35 minutes one of the few Penryn attacks saw them gain a corner.

It was sent to the far post where Dave Wilkinson had ghosted in and sent the ball past Andy Meeds in the Tavistock goal depite Chris Tilbury?s efforts to block the shot.

For the remainder of the first half it was pretty much the same pattern of play with Tavistock keeping possession but failing to make it count.

In the second half the same pattern of play continued but it was Penryn who increased their lead in the 62nd minute.

Dave Wilkinson intercepted a Nathan Blamey pass and broke towards the Tavistock goal and managed to shrug off the attentions of defender Steve Shaw before chipping the ball over the advancing Andy Meads and into the exposed goal.

This saw Tavistock lay seige to the Penryn goal for the final 25 minutes and Craig Hodge missed a great chance as he headed a Tom Barwell corner over the bar from two yards.

It wasn?t until the 78th minute that Jimmy Steer swung in a pin point cross from the right which Paul Adcock met with a spectacular overhead kick, to pull a goal back for the Lambs.

Adcock was then gulity of missing a glorious chance as Tom Barwell floated a ball into the six yard box which seemed to sit there for an eternity before the striker headed the ball narrowly past the far post with the keeper beaten.

Two minutes later the impressive Barwell struck the upright from a corner.

Then in injury time Nathan Blamey sent Alan Yendall down the right hand side and the full back spotted the Penryn keeper off his line and sent the ball over the keeper?s head form 25 yards, but unfortunately for Tavistock this was not to be their day as the ball once again cannoned off the woodwork and bounced to safety.

This was the last throw of the dice for Lambs and the referee then blew the whistle to the relief of the Penryn.

Tavistock can take a lot of heart form this performance as the Lambs dominated the game from start to finish and had they taken some of their chances and not given away the second goal it would have been looked on as a sound performance.

This Saturday sees the visit of a talented Millbrook side to Langsford Park in a game involving two sides which many people reckon will be vying for a top six finish this term and pushing for cup success.
