FA Vase
Clevedon United 3
Tavistock AFC 5
THE Lambs turned in another fine performance to progress into the second round proper of the FA Vase, on a wind swept afternoon at the Hand Stadium.
Tavistock playing with the wind took the lead as early as the second minute when captain Will Stringer rose majestically to head pass Ben Dancey in the home goal from a Shane Krac corner kick.
The Lambs continued to dominate the game and tremendous shot from Krac was tipped over the bar by Dancey. Minutes later Mark Conday hit the upright with a shot on the turn.
In the 22nd minute a rare raid on the visitor's goal resulted in a penalty being awarded to Clevedon but Sam Clark's spot kick was brilliantly saved by Andy Meeds.
Adam Carter then had a chance to extend the visitors lead when he broke free, but once again Dancey came to the rescue for the hosts by parrying his shot for a corner kick. In the 35th minute against the run of play Clevedon equalised, Krac lost the ball in the Lambs defensive third which resulted in Sam Clark finding space to chip the ball over the advancing Meeds from 12 yards.
Tavistock continued to put pressure on the home defence and it was no surprise when Dave Hallett scored in the 42th minute with a bullet like strike from 22 yards giving Dancey no chance.
The Lambs made it 3-1 just before the interval when great work between Richard Maddison and Mark Conday on the left flank ended with Carter converting the excellent cross from six yards.
Mark Conday who had picked up a knock was replaced by Glyn Hobbs at the start of the second half.
Playing against the wind in the second period did not deter the visitors, within minutes of the restart the Lambs took a 4-1 lead when a great pass and movement between Shane Krac and Ben Davies, saw Davies break into the penalty area and square the ball back to Carter who converted with aplomb.
In the 54th minute the Lambs made it five after good work by Adam Carter saw Glyn Hobbs beat two defenders and place his shot wide of Dancey into the bottom corner of the net.
With 30mins to go Tavistock replaced Ben Davies and Richard Maddison with youngsters Harry Hardy and Andre Rodokov
The Lambs then seemed to rest on their laurels allowing Clevedon to come more into the game.
On 65 minutes Clevedon were awarded a free kick some 35 yards from goal and Sam Jones hit an unstoppable shot pass Andy Meeds.
The Lambs had two great chances to increase their lead, first Glyn Hobbs put Harry Hardy in on goal but unfortunately he shot wide when well placed, and minutes later the same player had a shot well saved by the home keeper.
With five minutes remaining Sam Clark, who looked to be in an off side position, broke free of the Lambs defence and calmly lobbed the advancing Meeds, for Clevedon's third goal.
The Lambs saw out the remainder of the half for a deserved victory that puts them into the second round draw, to be made on Monday morning.
This was another good all round team performance, and it was especially pleasing to see the two youngsters' adapt to this standard of football, they really look good young prospects for the future.
l This Saturday Tavistock visit Wadebridge with a 3pm kick off while the Reserves are at home to Lanreth, kick-off 3pm.
