Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup Quarter Final Tavistock 2 Friary Vaults MG 1 THE Lambs came through this robust encounter with their Plymouth & West Devon Premier League opponents, despite losing a player after 40 minutes, to proceed to the semi-finals. Lambs opened the scoring on the half hour thanks to a sweetly struck free kick from Shane Krac that keeper James Gill seemed to have covered but it crept through his legs and hands to give the Lambs the advantage. Ten minutes later the visitors were back on level terms and again it was a mistake that got them back in. A free kick out wide on the left was put in high over the Lambs? defence with Chris Menhinick racing back and in attempting to clear succeeded in getting a deflected touch to put it wide of keeper Andy Meeds. There had been a series of hefty challenges going in by both sides resulting in free kicks for both teams. But it boiled over in the 40th minute when Will Stringer got caught ? and in the ensuing scuffle Tavistock?s Glynn Hobbs received his marching orders with Friary Vaults Leigham Rowe receiving a caution. The Lambs were unfortunate not to go ahead just prior to half time when Stringer?s shot cannoned off the crossbar. But they responded in the very first minute of the second half. Mark Conday got down the wing to cross first time and pass low for James Steer to get across his marker and turn the ball into the net via an upright to put the Lambs ahead. Despite being down to 10 men they held firm and could have increased their lead late in the game. Menhinick almost made amends but Gill managed to turn his shot around a post for a corner in the 78th minute and he saved another certain effort from Conday five minutes later. The Lambs had to sustain a period of pressure to the end including an incredible eight minutes of added time but they held firm to go through. l This commendable effort will stand Lambs in good stead for this weekend?s F A Vase 4th round tie away. The players are away to the Northern Counties East Premier side Pickering Town in North Yorkshire.
