Carlsberg South Western League

Launceston 1

Tavistock 2

TWO goals in the last seven minutes ensured a hard earned victory for the Lambs — but it could have been a different scoreline had the Clarets taken more of their chances.

Launceston appealed for a penalty in the first minute but it was waived aside. Lambs' Paul Adcock put a first time shot at keeper Hider after ten minutes and from a quick free kick put John Hadjiyianni in on goal but his shot lacked power as he was closed down.

The Lambs found themselves a goal down after 17 minutes when Liam Tilley evaded two tackles on the edge of the area to shoot low past Andy Meeds.

They were finding it hard work against a young and lively home side, but were unfortunate not to have levelled two minutes before the break when Tom Barwell's chip from the edge of the area came back off the crossbar and was cleared to safety.

Gary Andrew replaced Barwell at the start of the second half and the home side squandered early chances — a cut-back for Sean Turner was off target, a free kick sailed across the Lambs' goal and Turner hit the crossbar with another effort.

Into the last 15 minutes of the game and the Lambs kept pressing for an equaliser, but luck did not seem to be with them. Meeds had to be sharp off his line after a weak back-header by Hadjiyianni put him in danger.

Just when it seemed the Lambs would be going down to a second defeat the tide turned on 83 minutes. Adcock's shot came back off an upright and it fell for James Steer to get to the by-line to send in a low cross. Hadjiyianni attempted a back-heel but it went through for Andrew lurking behind him to smash home for a deserved leveller.

The game was in the last minute as the Lambs gained a corner. As the cross came in the referee saw some shirt pulling in the area and gave a penalty.

The home side took up all the added time in protesting about the decision with one player getting a caution, and after Nathan Blamey converted the spot kick again continued for another to receive his marching orders.

A cruel result for the home side but they did not take their chances and jubilation for the Lambs as they stared defeat in the eyes until a dramatic late rally.
