Elburton Villa 2

Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs visited Elburton following their fine midweek win at Ivybridge.

It was the home team that started the brighter on a heavy playing surface and they took the lead in the 16th minute. Lambs' keeper Jamie Castle was really unlucky, when he managed to get a hand to a shot from Levi Landricombe and push it onto the far post, only for it to fall kindly to Chris Clarke to drive the ball home from 12 yards.

The Lambs equalised within a minute when the Villa centre half pushed Andy Sargent over in the penalty area; the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Andy Sargent rifled the penalty kick into the roof of the net.

The home team restored their lead in the 30th minute when Jack Alexander played a neat through ball to ex-Lambs player Levi Landricombe, who cleverly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper Castle before tapping the ball into the unguarded net.

Shortly before the interval Lambs centre back Jamie Ahern had to be replaced, due to a back injury. The visitors pushed for an equaliser but the score remained 2-1 to Elburton at the interval.

The Lambs came out with more purpose in the second half and with the wind at their backs they became more of a threat to the home defence. It was no surprise when the visitors levelled the scores in the 65th minute. John James made a penetrating run down the right before sending a deep cross to the far post where Andy Sargent was on hand to power a header past Elburton keeper Simon May. Both sides pushed for a winner with the home keeper the busier of the two. May made a number of good saves, to keep his side on level terms, making a great save from a 25 yard free kick from Paul Quinn in the 75th minute.

Minutes later Dan Pethick and John Wyatt combined well to open up the home defence but Wyatt saw his fierce drive go inches wide of the target. Simon May again denied the visitors when he produced a fine save to deny Martyn Sullivan in the 85th minute, while in the last minute John Wyatt saw another one of his fine efforts flash pass the outside of the far post.

This was not a classic but it saw two teams trying to play some good football in difficult conditions.

Lambs had the better of the goal scoring chances, the home team battled throughout the 90 minute and probably deserved a share of the points.
