Tavistock 4 Vospers 0 TAVISTOCK continued their encouraging pre-season warm-up fixtures with comprehensive wins over Vospers and Okehampton Argyle over the past week. Attaining match fitness is a priority for the squad and Vospers provided a good workout in what was a competitive game. Early exchanges saw Vospers swamp the midfield exposing Tavistock?s back four. However, a sublime strike from Lee Coxon settled the team down. Two goals from Will Stringer put Tavistock back in the ascendancy. Controlling the game comfortably in the second half Vospers had no real answer to the bullish strength and pace of Tavistock?s Glyn Hobbs and numerous chances were spurned before Chris Short strode forward from the back to pick his spot from 25 metres to complete a 4-0 win. Tavistock 4 Okehampton Argyle 0 Four days later Tavistock entertained Okehampton Argyle at Langsford Park and recorded a convincing 4-0 victory. However, that is where the similarity ended. This was a lazy performance from Tavistock where the players? attitude was simply not good enough and better opposition would have punished the sloppy play. Goals from Glyn Hobbs, Joe Smith and two from Lee Coxon showed the overall gulf in quality between the teams but the Lambs will have to step up when the action starts for real. On a positive note the team have shown progress during the pre-season and the squad looks strong in all departments. Manager Ian Southcott has used the games to experiment with various permutations and is beginning to get an idea of his starting line up before the season opener against Clyst Rovers on Saturday.
