Carlsberg South Western Plymouth Argyle 2 Tavistock 0 IF there was an abundance of players then there would have been many changes from the side that played last week at Falmouth but with Chris Short injured, Jimmy Kiely absent there was little that could be done apart from Nigel Pugh coming in to take his customary place in defence. The Lambs' Mark Conday had the ball in the net after five minutes but it was deemed to be offside. Anthony Mason shot over shortly after before the hosts took the lead on 15 minutes. It was a solo run from Ryan Dickson that Andy Meeds parried but it fell into the path of Argyle's Shane Duggan to volley home. Mark Conday and Steve Daly went close for the Lambs before the Pilgrims added their second with 10 minutes of the half remaining as Mason floated over a cross for Daniel Smith to come in at the far post to volley into the net for a goal of simplicity personified. It was to be an uphill task for the Lambs trying to claw back a two goal deficit but they gave their best in the second half as Kevin Parker crossed in for Glynn Hobbs to get a shot in on 52 minutes. A minute later from a Pete Floyd free kick Will Stringer headed just wide. Two further good chances came the Lambs' way as Parker raced down the wing to cross low to Conday but an Argyle defender just got a foot to it and diverted it away. Man of the match Tom King saw Meeds save an effort from the Argyle player before Tavistock's Parker then got clean away to go past keeper Tim Sandercombe but from a narrow angle he saw his effort bounce off the crossbar and away. A somewhat better performance from the Lambs but it still leaves them rooted in the lower half of the table. It is three weeks of cup action for the Lambs all away from home as they take on Penryn this Saturday in the South Western League Cup first round. On Saturday, November 18, they play in the FA Vase at the round two stage to take on Western Premier Champions Bideford. The kick off is at 3pm. The following week sees them enter the Devon Premier Cup when they travel to Ivybridge for another tough encounter. l There will be a coach going to Bideford for the F A Vase, game further details later. Falmouth Town 5 Tavistock 0 THE Lambs' early season promise was dealt a severe blow with this heavy defeat at Bickland Park last Wednesday evening. Will Stringer was back after missing the previous week's cup match to replace Nigel Pugh. Both sides had good chances to open their accounts. Glynn Hobbs got to the by-line for the Lambs in the opening exchanges and his cross went too high for anyone to get on the end of it. Former front man for Tavistock, Andy Bowker, then got away down the wing but his clip over Andy Meeds was off target and the Lambs' defender Chris Short cleared an effort from Falmouth's Andy Westgarth. Tavistock's James Steer and Short then combined at the other end for the latter to send a shot just over the bar. Jimmy Kiely then lost the ball in midfield after dwelling on it too much to give Falmouth's Wayne Hewitt the chance to burst forward from midfield — only to see Meeds block his first effort and the follow up. Kiely was given the chance to make amends when Mark Conday put him away in front of goal but he failed to hit the target. Falmouth's Bowker then got to the by-line to send in a cross that Westgarth glanced just wide of the post. The Lambs' Hobbs went close again the in opening minutes of the second half but three goals in a nine minute spell put the Shipbuilders in complete command. Bowker's low cut back from the by-line was met by Mike Roberts to slot home on 51 minutes and it was Bowker again supplying the cross for Carlton Farnham to get the second. The third came when a ball was not cleared by Tavistock for Westgarth to rifle in a long range shot over Andy Meeds for the goal of the game. Kevin Parker sent a shot over before the home side completed a miserable night for the Lambs as first Bowker got behind the defence to shoot low under Meeds for Roberts to get his second and his side's fifth in the final minutes. This was a poor display from the Lambs with many players turning in below par performances.
